From the Principal…

Greetings Oak Ridge Families,

It’s hard to imagine but time flies when you’re having fun, and there are only seven weeks remaining in the 2012-2013 school year!  Thank you for joining us as partners this year supporting your child’s learning.Your support has been amazing as evidenced by a record turnout at Open House, fantastic attendance and participation at our Family Teacher Academic Team meetings, and parents showing up in force to attend our end of genre school-wide classroom tours.  Your attendance sends a powerful message to your child about the importance of learning and growing together.

We welcome our new Fruit Ridge families with open arms.  We’ve had positive transition team meetings and we are excited about adding about 150 new Fruit Ridge students to our growing family.  We look forward to embracing our new families.  It was great meeting many of our new families at Oak Ridge’s Open House on April 17th.  We invite our Fruit Ridge families to join us in attending our Multicultural celebration, Fruit Ridge Parent Tours, and our Community meeting (see upcoming events for dates & times).

Each year all second through sixth grade students in the state of California take the STAR test.   The STAR test is designed to measure student mastery of the California content standards.  Our STAR testing window this year is from April 30th – May 17th   (plus any make-up tests that need to be administered).  Please make sure that students are at school ready to test during these dates.  Student test data will help us learn about the academic strengths and weaknesses of our students, our programs, and our instruction.  This is an exciting time as our students get ready to show how much they have learned this year. We have been very impressed with our students’ performance on this year’s Benchmark Assessments.  Now it is time for them to shine on the STAR test.  Attitude is a key factor when it comes to student performance.  Your support and encouragement will help your child keep a positive “I can do it” attitude.

Thank you for helping Oak Ridge stand proud and tall.  We’re making teaching and learning count in big ways.  Thank you for your support.
